It's 2012, and it's time for the first Site Update of the year!

Just a little while ago, we posted the latest Sta.sh updates and asked you for more feedback. Now, in this update, you'll find all the feedback from those 500+ comments gathered into the Known Issues section below, just after the Change Log, which will tell you about some brand new features launching today, as well as all the bugs fixed since the last update.

The last update was all about Sta.sh, and there are some pretty big Sta.sh announcements this time too, but this update features any changes that have been made to deviantART, Profiles, Messages, Sta.sh, everything!

Get ready!

Change Log

:bulletblue: Many have asked for the ability to share a whole stack of Sta.sh files, as well as just one at a time. Well now you can! In any stack on your Sta.sh, grab the "Quick Share" link in the top right, and paste it to anyone that you want to show the stack to! - Added by kouiskas

:bulletblue: Using Sta.sh Writer was previously the only way to submit to the new Journal Portal categories. Now, you can now choose a Journal Category from the Update Journal page on deviantART! - Added by kemayo and Alisey

:bulletblue: Instead of Sta.sh Writer automatically resuming your last draft, Writer now always starts on a fresh blank document, with a File menu for Opening your previous draft, or starting a new one. As always, you can visit the Drafts stack in your Sta.sh to resume any of your old drafts. - Added by kemayo and Alisey

:bulletblue: Literature thumbnails created through Writer no longer have their own special thumbnail - instead, by popular demand, they now look just like regular literature thumbnails - including the author tag! - Added by inazar

:bulletblue: "Edit with Sta.sh Writer" is now always available when viewing Writer Sta.sh items, instead of you having to enter edit mode first. - Added by kemayo

:bulletblue: Here's a nice little extra: You can now put exclamation marks in deviation titles! - Added by allixsenos

:bulletblue: Lots of small tweaks to the design of Sta.sh have happened, but most especially the blank space on the left side has been reduced to give you more room for your files! - Added by adahacker

:bug:  In your messages, stacks containing a single literature deviation now display their thumbnails properly. - Fixed by helloandre

:bug: Fixed a bug where special unicode characters could mess up a whole page of comments! - Fixed by ArtBIT

:bug: An amusing bug: Some journals could not be viewed if the first word of the title was "art", "collection", or "friends"! - Fixed by kemayo

:bug: Our Llama Server was being tricked into giving more than one llama badge to one deviant, by deviants who were sending llama badges very-very quickly. This has been fixed, and the cheat badges have been taken away! - Fixed by loopstart

:bug: The "edit" page on journals was sometimes causing a "File not Found" error. - Fixed by loopstart

:bug:  Resolved a very rare  issue with a number of thumbnails in the browse setting, which caused affected deviants not to see any deviations in any gallery. - Fixed by inazar

:bug:  There was a slight issue with logged-in deviants being unable to access their Points through www.deviantart.com/account/poi… - Fixed by helloandre

:bug:  For deviants ordering multiple items shipped to multiple places, the shipping price was calculated erroneously in rare circumstances.  We've now implemented a fail-safe measure to prevent it from happening again. - Fixed by  allixsenos and yury-n

:bug: Tidied up some old RSS feeds that were no longer in use and slowing things down. - Fixed by allixsenos

:bug: The search on the "Journal" tab of deviants' Profile Pages wasn't working! - Fixed by loopstart

:bug: Fixed a bug where clicking a thumbnail in a journal with a mix of deviation and Sta.sh items send you to the wrong deviation! Fixed by loopstart

:bug:  Deviation titles that include the "quote" character are now displayed properly in the Message Center. - Fixed by samshull

:bug:  The "Submit deviation to group" box's dropdown menu now works on small screens. - Fixed by samshull

:bug: The tagline on tooltips on Chat were accidentally removed... then brought back! - Fixed by KnightAR

:bug: Notes folders with special characters no longer get accidental backslashes added to their names. - Fixed by samshull

:bug: Share links on deviations inside of journals sometimes shared the journal deviation instead. - Fixed by loopstart

:bug:  We solved a long-standing issue that caused some deviants to be redirected to Sta.sh after logging into deviantART. - Fixed by kouiskas

:bug: Changing comment settings on Sta.sh was causing a "File not Found" error. - Fixed by kouiskas

:bug: Some issues with re-ordering stacks and Sta.sh items have been fixed. If you ever moved some stuff around in your Sta.sh and the Sta.sh Ghosts seemed to be moving them back, everything should be back to normal! - Fixed by kouiskas

:bug: Trying to select a Stack with the Ctrl key was causing the Stack to open instead - Fixed by aMoniker

:bug:  Merging stacks occasionally caused problems where a reload was needed to keep using Sta.sh. - Fixed by aMoniker

:bug: Tooltips no longer get in the way when dragging and dropping. - Fixed by aMoniker

:bug: Some URLs copied from the address bar ("hash URLs"), instead of from the Quick Share box were not working when visited by loggedout viewers. - Fixed by kouiskas

:bug: Some minor pixel-jumping-around was happening on the "click to add description" box on Sta.sh - Fixed by aMoniker

:bug: Deviants with access to deviantART Film were unable to submit to the film category from Sta.sh - Fixed by kouiskas

:bug: A problem with the Sta.sh API which would theoretically have allowed an "undelete" shortly after deleting a Sta.sh item has been fixed by kouiskas

:bug: Pasting into Sta.sh Writer from Word no longer causes accidental "out of space" errors! This one was tricky. ;) Fixed by kemayo

:bug:  The Writer "Continue/Update" button used to be a little sluggish. It now indicates exactly when "Saving..." is taking place. - Fixed by Alisey

:bug: Writer now allows l underline and bold at the same time, whether or not text is selected. - Fixed by inazar

:bug: The formatting buttons on Writer now visually stay pressed down when they are active. Added by inazar

:bug: "Journal extras" now fit properly into the Sta.sh UI, rather than being deviant green. Fixed by inazar

:bug: Writer deviations now display correctly in the "Write Critique" box. Fixed by inazar

Your Feedback

:bulletblue: Not everybody wants to put huge images in their journals when using Writer. You should be able to choose the default size for all added images. - From Lionsong, NovemberWishes, and more

:bulletblue: Writer's Auto-Save should not be affecting already-submitted deviations - it should be auto-saving your changes to your Drafts! We'll be fixing this so that your edits don't accidentally leak out ealry. - From violetstory

:bulletblue: It is not possible to set a preview image for literature made via Sta.sh Writer. - From JZLobo, JamieMDavies, and many more

:bulletblue: Scheduled/timed submissions are a popular request. Once we get some of the basic changes out of the day, this is definitely on the horizon! - From ambisweetiepie, Aikodea, and many more: including this awesome drawn request from iastudio - comments.deviantart.com/1/2731…

:bulletblue: Sta.sh Writer should have additional formatting options, including bullet points, margins - everything you would expect from a desktop word processor. - From JamieMDavies, KettouRyuujin, and more!

:bulletblue: While Sta.sh is great at letting you upload a whole lot of files at once, you can still only submit one at a time to your gallery. We're looking at ways to make this better, but we want to make sure we go with the right solution - we don't want to make it easy for people to spam or flood deviantART. - From WindBlade-Zero, StrangeOrangeFish, and more

:bulletblue: Right now, even if you have a Sta.sh full of files, you can't access any of them from the main Submit page, or from the Print Submission page. This is something we're working on correcting. - From sleepyowlet

:bulletblue: deviantART has always removed color profile information from files - mostly because we remove nearly ALL meta data - partially for cleanup, for privacy, for virus cleaning - for a million reasons. But, we're going to look into whether we can keep some of that info in the file for Sta.sh - specifically color profiles. No guarantees, but we'll try. ;) - From arth1

:bulletblue: Right now Sta.sh thumbnails can't be used on deviantART - partially because it would mean 'bigger plz icons' in a lot of places, and partially because Sta.sh is meant to be that little bit separate. It's been suggested that we could allow the thumbs, but always put a "Sta.sh" overlay on them to mark them clearly. This is a cool idea that we'll definitely give more thought to! - From Miguel-Santos

:bulletblue: Simple: In Sta.sh Writer, the Tab Key should indent! - From Remy1716

:bulletblue: Some are requesting that Sta.sh work on their mobile phones too - it's something we're definitely going to look at a little further down the road. But, as with everything, keep the requests keep coming in if it's something you want to see! - From AdolftheWolf, maejonin, and more

:bulletblue: Instead of having its own file-saving system, deviantART muro should just save to Sta.sh. And so it will! - From josehedgehog

:bulletblue: YouTube embeds aren't working too well if you paste the embed code that their site gives you! We're going to fix this up, but in the meantime try the "Add Link" menu at the top to insert a youtube embed! - From daigonite

:bug: The "This edit is minor" checkbox, for controlling whether an edit is sent out to all your watchers, sometimes doesn't appear when editing a Writer deviation. - From Greybird007, MadMeeper, and more

:bug: The "Change Size" & "Move" buttons sometimes don't show up on images added to a Writer document. Still trying to figure out what's causing it! - From Katy-L-Wood, FullMetalMono, and more

:bug: Stray "closing tags" can end up appearing in Writer posts when experimenting with HTML. We're working on it! - From 0567tlz

And all the items carried over from the last update:

:bulletblue: Sta.sh needs to do a better job at introducing itself! For some folks it's daunting, and it's not clear what it's for. While Sta.sh is useful for a lot of artist's workflows, it's Sta.sh's job to make sure that anyone who visits it understands what it's for. Requested by Befera, RaiDoodles, and lots more.

:bulletblue: The ability to type in "real HTML" in Writer is going to be present as part of the upcoming Edit menu. This should solve a lot of problems with "nbsp" not working, and other HTML tricks like that. - Requested by Mirz123, electricjonny and many more!

:bulletblue: While Sta.sh makes it easy to upload a lot of files at once, submitting those files to your deviantART Gallery is still not smooth, and it's not possible to submit a lot at once. We will be designing a new Submit application to address all of these issues in one swoop. Based on comments from Created-By-Caz, dorkywaffle, and many more.

:bulletblue: Sta.sh Writer is getting ongoing work to make sure what you type is exactly what you get when you Submit - especially when it comes to pasting things from other editors, such as Word. We've made some improvements to this since the last update, as mentioned above, but it remains something we're improving on an ongoing basis!

:bulletblue: Sta.sh Comments are hidden after they are posted, so that you have a space to freely discuss and critique and plan before submitting something, but many of you have asked to still have access to those older Sta.sh comments after submitting is done. We're adding this feature as soon as we can! Asked by KaizokuShojo, bcbdrums

:bulletblue: Request: The ability Flip, Crop, Rotate, and even Filter images should be possible for Stashed items. Requested by far-off-light and RevanREK

:bulletblue: Sta.sh's file organization interface makes it tedious to access certain functions, such as Delete. A new interface has been designed that simplifies all core actions, and is currently in Staff Testing - we're adding some more features to it before it goes live -- sit tight!

:bulletblue: Sta.sh Writer currently cannot access Group Skins (only the skins installed individually by deviants). We will soon provide functionality giving you the ability to use any skin you'd otherwise have access to anywhere you want. Our reasoning is, if you have access to the skin you could easily cut and paste it anyway so we may as well make this easier to address the needs here.

:bulletblue: Group Journals are still considered "Personal" -- they will likely be re-categorized in the tree and separated from Personal.

:bug: Sometimes, for text posts, a "Journal" graphic appears where a "Literature" one should - places like Chat thumbnails, and sometimes inside Sta.sh itself. Reported by exarobibliologist

:bug: Some journals are appearing wider than they should on the Journal Portal, causing the right bar to sometimes get cut off. Still finding out what exactly it is about certain journals that's triggering this!

:bug: Dragging and Dropping to Sta.sh causes trouble if you've logged out in a separate window

:bug: Bug to Fix: Our formatting system, named Chrysalis, very-occasionally has trouble processing a section of a Writer document. It results Stashed files displaying in correctly on the Sta.sh home page.

Tell us what you want to see

The response has been amazing from this new kind of feature-list and bug-fix-list - a huge thank you to you all - to the deviants mentioned above and the many-more who also gave their feedback.

If you have a feature you want, or know about a bug, shout it right here on this deviation to let us know!

Tune in this time next week for the next update!

Stay Devious.
